The polite you

Speak to a waiter with vostè, and to a friend with tu.

Vostè takes the same verb as ella. Vostè vol un cafè? is for the waiter. Vull un cafè is for a friend. Voldria is the soft request to either.

• Vostè vol un cafè?Do you want a coffee, formally?
• Com està vostè?How are you, formally?
• On viu vostè?Where do you live, formally?
• Vol seure?Would you like to sit down?
• Necessita res?Do you need anything?
• Voldria un te, si us plau.I would like a tea, please.
• Vull un cafè amb llet.I want a milky coffee.
• Gràcies, és molt amable.Thank you, that is very kind.
